Outreach PhilosophyOne of my important responsibilities as an ecologist is to act as a communicator of science in my community. In my approach to outreach, I emphasize ecology at the local-level, specifically by using recognizable examples from nearby parks and directing people to resources that are available within the community. I use my background in conservation to promote awareness of environmental issues and suggest ways to apply ecological principles to daily life (for example, using pollinator-friendly native plants for home landscaping). Because of the lack of access to quality science education (especially ecology) in many urban and suburban communities, I also feel strongly about bringing nature to the classroom and exciting children's interest in wildlife, biological diversity, and ecological processes.
I also invite you to read a blog post about a past outreach project at Frank Hall Elementary. Objectives
